Lee Seung-gi Honored with Buddhist Award for Promoting Buddhist Values

On May 5th, Lee Seung-gi attended the Buddha's Birthday celebration ceremony at Jogyesa Temple in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Dressed in a suit, he took the stage to receive a bouquet and trophy, drawing attention.
The Buddhist Award is given to individuals who practice the teachings of Buddha in their daily lives and contribute significantly to the development of the nation and society, as well as enhancing the status of Korean Buddhism.
Nominees for the Buddhist Award include those who have significantly contributed to the promotion of Buddhism, enhanced the status of Korean Buddhism, inspired pride among Buddhists, contributed to the development and promotion of Buddhist orders, and contributed to national and social development. Foreigners, deceased individuals, and organizations are also eligible.
The selection committee highlighted Lee Seung-gi's contribution to conveying Buddhist values and sentiments to the public through the film 'About Family' as a primary reason for his selection. Additionally, his role as a host at the International Zen Meditation Competition's national music concert last year was recognized, along with his donation of 100 million KRW to the Jogye Order's 'Building for a Millennium' project, supporting Buddhist propagation.
Released in December last year, 'About Family' is a family comedy about a dumpling restaurant owner (played by Kim Yoon-seok) whose son becomes a monk (played by Lee Seung-gi), leading to an unexpected cohabitation with adorable grandchildren. As a Buddhist, Lee Seung-gi showed exceptional dedication to his character, even shaving his head for the role.
