Japanese Girl Group PhiBB Criticized for Misusing Late K-Pop Star Goo Hara's Image
Japanese girl group PhiBB has come under fire for using a maliciously edited image of the late K-pop star Goo Hara for marketing purposes.

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University revealed on the 15th that he was informed by numerous netizens about the incident. He stated, "Japanese girl group 'PhiBB' shared an image on their official social media that combined a photo of Goo Hara with a coffin."

The post, as disclosed by Professor Seo, included the phrase 'IDGAF' (I don't give a fxxx), indicating a lack of concern.

Fans of KARA, both in Korea and Japan, have condemned PhiBB for exploiting Goo Hara as a marketing tool and tarnishing the late star's honor. As the controversy escalated, PhiBB removed the post and issued an apology, claiming they were unaware of the context involving the late Goo Hara. They also suggested that they regularly share memes created by fans, seemingly deflecting responsibility.

However, Goo Hara's fans and the general public in Korea remain unconvinced. Professor Seo criticized the group's actions, stating, "Goo Hara was a top star who was dearly loved in Japan, so claiming ignorance is merely an excuse." He further condemned the act, saying, "Regardless of K-pop's global success, using the image of a deceased K-pop star alongside a coffin for promotion is utterly unforgivable." He emphasized that if PhiBB aspires to enter the global market, they must first adhere to basic human decency.
