According to Taiwanese media, Barbie Hsu died from acute pneumonia caused by the flu while on a trip to Japan. Some reports indicate that her family remains in Japan, where her funeral is expected to take place.
CNA reported that Barbie's younger sister, Dee Hsu, shared the tragic news, stating, "During our family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year, my most beloved and kind sister Barbie left us due to pneumonia caused by the flu." She added, "I am grateful to have been her sister in this life and will cherish the times we supported and loved each other. Rest in peace, sister. I will love you forever." This statement was also posted on their joint Instagram account.
Initially suspected to be a hoax, the news of Barbie Hsu's death was confirmed as true. Koo Jun-yup acknowledged the news, stating briefly, "I am not okay." His social media has been flooded with condolences, including messages like "You were Barbie's last love," "May you find strength after this sorrow," and "Thank you for marrying Barbie."
Barbie Hsu debuted in 1994 with her sister Dee as part of the group 'SOS,' later renamed 'ASOS' after a dispute with their agency. She gained fame for her role as 'Shan Cai' in the Taiwanese version of 'Meteor Garden' in 2001, and furthered her acting career with roles in 'A Chinese Ghost Story' (2003) and 'Corner with Love' (2007).

Upon hearing of Barbie's divorce, Koo Jun-yup reached out to her using a phone number he had saved, leading to their reunion and subsequent marriage announcement. The couple has been enjoying their newlywed life between Taiwan and Korea, with their third wedding anniversary approaching on March 8th.
