YouTuber Ordered to Pay $50,000 to IVE's Jang Wonyoung for Defamation

On the 22nd, the Seoul Central District Court's 9-3 Civil Division delivered its appellate verdict in the damages lawsuit filed by Jang Wonyoung and her agency, Starship Entertainment, against the YouTuber, identified as Mr. A. The lawsuit initially sought damages of 100 million won (approximately $100,000).
The court ruled, "The defendant must pay the plaintiff 50 million won in damages along with delayed interest." This decision differs from the initial ruling in January, where the court had recognized the full claim of 100 million won in damages sought by Jang Wonyoung.
The YouTube channel 'Taldeok Asylum,' operated by Mr. A, has been notorious for creating videos based on harmful rumors about K-pop group members since 2021. In response, Jang Wonyoung and Starship Entertainment announced in January last year that they had initiated civil and criminal lawsuits against the channel, both domestically and internationally, since November 2022.
They stated, "Taldeok Asylum has caused severe defamation through continuous dissemination of false information, disrupting our business and causing significant distress to our artists and fans. We are committed to pursuing all legal avenues to hold them accountable for their actions."
