Minnie, a member of the popular K-pop group (G)I-DLE, is set to release her first solo album after seven years in the industry. She expressed her satisfaction with the album, stating that it fully captures her musical ambitions as a solo artist.

On October 20th, Minnie sat down with TenAsia at Cube Entertainment's headquarters in Seoul to discuss her debut solo album, 'HER'.

Reflecting on her solo debut, Minnie shared, "This album has been meticulously prepared, as it's my first solo project in seven years. I'm very excited and grateful to the fans who have waited so long." She revealed that she compiled songs she had been saving, some written years ago, and developed them since last summer.

Minnie showed a particular fondness for the track 'Valentine's Dream'. She confessed, "I feel a bit guilty saying this to my group members, but this song is my hidden gem. I was anxious it might be chosen as a group song." She added that fellow member Soyeon was very fond of it, but Minnie decided to keep it for her solo work.

Choosing the title track was a challenge for Minnie. "I had so many doubts," she admitted. "Even during recording, I wanted all the tracks to be title-worthy, but it wasn't until mastering that I was sure."

Minnie chose 'HER' as the title track because "the lyrics and concept seemed to encapsulate the entire album. I felt it was the song I could express best." She also noted that working on 'HER' was a significant challenge, as it was her first time creating such a gimmicky and kitschy song.

Minnie revealed that the performance for 'HER' involves dancing in high heels, a risky endeavor she prepared for diligently. "Fans might be curious about the performance after watching the music video," she said. "My members were surprised, asking, 'Are you really dancing that intensely?' I sing and dance from start to finish."

She continued, "It was really tough, but I was determined and worked hard. I wondered if I should have chosen to dance, but I felt responsible to see it through." Minnie shared that she considered wearing sneakers but ultimately chose heels to match the song's image.

Minnie also spoke about (G)I-DLE's recent contract renewal, expressing her desire to continue making music together. "We wanted to work in a comfortable environment with ample support," she recalled, thanking the company for their care and consideration.

She acknowledged the significant support from her agency during the solo album's production. "They helped expedite the process and valued my input, which contributed to the album's quality," Minnie said.

Minnie expressed gratitude towards leader Soyeon, saying, "I'm always thankful to Soyeon. She's incredibly talented and has helped our music gain recognition. Even if we have differing opinions, I trust her judgment."

Minnie also enjoyed collaborating with fellow member Yuqi on the track 'Drive U Crazy'. "Our voices are very different but complement each other well. I have a dreamy, thin voice, while Yuqi's is husky and deep. I always wanted to work with her on my solo project," she smiled.

Minnie participated in writing and composing all seven tracks on 'HER', conveying a confident message of 'I am my own muse'. The title track 'HER' showcases various facets of Minnie, both as seen by the public and on stage, offering an honest glimpse into her inner self.

Minnie’s solo debut album 'HER' will be available on various music platforms on October 21st at 6 PM.
