PSY Addresses Allegations of Property Seizure Due to Unpaid Fines
K-pop star PSY has clarified allegations regarding the seizure of his home due to unpaid fines related to unauthorized modifications and extensions.

On the 26th, PSY's representatives stated, "When we moved into The House in 2007, we received a brand-new home from the developer and have lived there for over 17 years without making any changes or extensions. However, we later became aware of illegal extensions made during the initial construction after complaints were filed."

They further explained, "After confirming the facts, PSY, along with other residents of the villa, coordinated with the Yongsan District Office and are currently preparing to rectify the illegal extensions with a construction company."

Regarding the unpaid fines, PSY clarified, "The delay in payment was due to late receipt of the notice, but the full amount has now been paid."

Previously, on the 25th, a media outlet reported that PSY had been fined for failing to comply with orders to rectify building violations and that his home was seized due to unpaid fines.

The report stated that PSY purchased a duplex unit and an adjacent office in The House, a luxury villa in the UN Village in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in September 2008. He lived there until 2020 before moving out and renting the space.

The issue arose from the unauthorized expansion of a shared space connecting the duplex and office into a single unit. There were also allegations of unauthorized steel and concrete extensions inside the home. Complaints were filed, and the Yongsan District Office issued a correction order to PSY and his wife. However, the order was not complied with, resulting in fines and the eventual seizure of the property. The seizure was lifted after PSY paid the fines in October.

The media also reported that the correction order has yet to be fulfilled and that PSY purchased a new home worth over 10 billion KRW while the fines were still unpaid.
