Robert Harley and Myung Hyun-sook's Virtual Divorce Confession on MBN's 'Decision to Divorce Once'
On the 16th episode of MBN's 'Decision to Divorce Once' (hereafter referred to as 'Decision'), airing at 10 PM on November 3, Myung Hyun-sook invites a couple of friends she has known for over 20 years to her home, serving them homemade spicy monkfish stew while seeking advice on her marital relationship.
Previously, Robert Harley and Myung Hyun-sook attempted to mend their relationship during the 'divorce deliberation period' by staying together at their Gwangju home, but ended up having a major argument while making the stew. On this day, Myung Hyun-sook expresses her past grievances related to the stew to her husband, shedding tears for the first time. However, the unexpected visit of their friends leaves Harley flustered. It turns out that Myung Hyun-sook had invited the couple, who are her peers and long-time acquaintances, to seek advice on their marriage. Unaware of this, Harley grumbles, "If I had known, I wouldn't have fought with my wife," reluctantly joining the meal.
The friends praise Myung Hyun-sook's stew, saying, "This is a rare treat, and Hyun-sook makes it very delicious." However, Harley sarcastically comments, "Try living with her once, and see if she makes it delicious," criticizing his wife. Eventually, Harley grimaces after taking a bite of the stew. During the meal, Myung Hyun-sook confesses, "It's hard to bring this up, but we've decided to divorce." The friends are shocked and ask for the reason. Harley responds, "I feel like I'm constantly hurting my family, so I decided on the divorce." Myung Hyun-sook then reveals, "There's a story behind this stew," mentioning how her husband didn't buy her the stew she craved after her brain tumor surgery, indicating his lack of understanding and empathy. The friends, hearing this, angrily question, "Is it consistent to say you don't want to be a burden to your wife while criticizing the food she makes?"
Watching the suddenly tense dining atmosphere from the studio, Jung Dae-se comments, "Men tend to forget once they've apologized," defending Harley. However, the friends point out, "Women remember things from 40 years ago," and insist, "You even officiated our daughter's wedding, divorce is really not the answer." Harley listens quietly and self-deprecatingly jokes, "I guess I won't be invited to officiate any more weddings?" eliciting a bittersweet laugh.
