Chun Woo-hee Shines with Her Genuine Approach to Acting and Life
Actress Chun Woo-hee illuminated the 29th Busan International Film Festival's 'Actors House' with her sincere approach to acting and life.
On the evening of the 6th, Chun Woo-hee engaged in a profound session with the audience at the 'Actors House' held at the Culture Hall of Shinsegae Department Store Centum City in Haeundae-gu, Busan. 'Actors House' is a special program of the Busan International Film Festival that debuted in 2021. This year, Chun Woo-hee concluded the series following Seol Kyung-gu, Park Bo-young, and Hwang Jung-min.
Chun Woo-hee greeted the audience, who filled the seats, with ease as she took the stage. Celebrating her 20th anniversary as an actress, she expressed, “I am very grateful for this opportunity in my 20th year. I started humbly but have persevered well, and I want to commend myself for that.”
During the ensuing talk, Chun Woo-hee revisited her significant filmography, including movies like 'Han Gong-ju', 'Sunny', 'The Wailing', 'Idol', 'Anchor', and the drama 'Be Melodramatic'. She also discussed her recent works 'Not a Hero' and 'The Eight Show', reflecting on her journey of expanding genres and characters as an actress. When it was time for audience questions, participation surged from the seats. In response to a question about her criteria for choosing roles, Chun Woo-hee said, “I often say 'salvation is self-achieved', but in reality, I have often taken on characters that are saved by or save others. Reflecting on these choices, I realized that 'love and solidarity' are important to me. Perhaps my subconscious draws me to these values when selecting works.”
When asked about her goals as an actress, she replied, “I have been blessed with a name that lends itself to the phrase 'a thousand faces'. I hope to become an actress with an infinite spectrum that matches this description. I want to fearlessly challenge various genres and characters and grow as an actress.”
Regarding how she intends to live her daily life as a person, Chun Woo-hee stated, “I don't separate actress Chun Woo-hee from human Chun Woo-hee. I believe sincerity and authenticity are most important for both. While artists are often seen as needing dramatic emotions and instinctive energy, I think the artistry lies in how well one can control that energy.” She added, “I have a 'respect' for craftsmanship. I believe the value of refining and dedicating oneself over a long time is beautiful, and I aspire to be such a person. I want to strive sincerely and tirelessly every time.”
Chun Woo-hee is currently filming the drama 'My Youth' (working title).
