Kim Sung-kyu Triumphs in First Performance of Musical 'Kinky Boots'
On the evening of the 8th, Kim Sung-kyu took the stage as the lead character Charlie in the musical 'Kinky Boots' at the Blue Square Shinhan Card Hall in Seoul.
'Kinky Boots' is an adaptation of the true success story of a shoe factory in Northampton, England, which survived the economic downturn by producing a very special type of boots. The musical is beloved by audiences of all ages for its compelling story that conveys messages of acceptance and positivity, combined with lively and sophisticated music that makes you want to dance.
In 'Kinky Boots', Kim Sung-kyu plays Charlie, a novice factory owner who struggles to save his family's shoe factory from closing. Having previously starred in the 2020 and 2022 seasons, Kim has been cast for the third consecutive time in this 10th-anniversary performance, showcasing his seamless portrayal of Charlie.
Kim Sung-kyu has been recognized for his exceptional talent and ability to embody characters in numerous musicals, including 'Gwanghwamun Sonata', 'Excalibur', 'Red Book', and 'Dear Evan Hansen'. In the 10th-anniversary performance of 'Kinky Boots', he once again demonstrated his well-honed skills and delivered a heartfelt performance, reaffirming his reputation as 'Gyu Charlie'.
Known for his powerful and clear vocals as a 'luxury vocalist', Kim also displayed his superior dance skills, befitting the leader of the original 'knife-like choreography' group, INFINITE. His performance captivated the audience, drawing enthusiastic applause.
After the successful first performance of 'Kinky Boots', Kim Sung-kyu expressed his gratitude through his agency, Billions, saying, "It is an honor to stand on the meaningful stage of the 10th anniversary of 'Kinky Boots' after a long time.
