Lee Bong-ryeon returns to theater stage after 4 years

Actress Lee Bong-ryeon returns to the stage once again.

Lee Bong-ryeon, who is active both on the cathode ray tube and on stage, will present the play ‘Hamlet’ in the second half of this year.

The play 'Hamlet' is a re-creation of Shakespeare's original play 'Hamlet' and sets the main character Hamlet as a princess rather than a prince, and Lee Bong-ryeon transforms into 'Princess Hamlet', a former naval officer skilled in swordsmanship and heir to the throne.

Lee Bong-ryeon is expected to fill the stage with the aura radiating from her small body, befitting her nickname 'little giant on stage'. He plans to overwhelm the audience with the thrilling action and charismatic appearance of Hamlet, who is good at sword fighting. In addition, the fear, weakness, and fear of humans collapsing in front of reality are expressed through detailed acting.

This time, 'Hamlet' is a play that Lee Bong-ryeon is re-performing for the first time in four years, so it has a special meaning. In 2020, the play 'Hamlet' was unable to meet the audience due to the spread of COVID-19, and was produced as a performance video and shown only online, leaving a regret. Also, for Lee Bong-ryeon, 'Hamlet' proved the irreplaceable presence of actor Lee Bong-ryeon. This work also gave her the honor of winning the Best Actress Award in the Play Category at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2021. Accordingly, Lee Bong-ryeon is also concentrating on practicing to perform this stage perfectly.

Lee Bong-ryeon, who debuted in 2005 with the musical 'Five Drawings of Love', has performed in various works including the musicals 'Laundry', 'The Days', 'Four Minutes', and the plays 'In Praise of Youth', 'I Am a Murderer', and 'Hamlet'. By appearing in , he has demonstrated his wide range of capabilities on stage. The third part of the recent voice project – the musical play ‘Taeyoung of the White People’ – conveyed the life of Korea’s first female lawyer, ‘Taeyoung Lee’, from a wild seven-year-old girl to an old lawyer, drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience.

Lee Bong-ryeon, who later expanded her activities to the cathode ray tube and screen, appeared in the dramas 'Tomorrow with You', 'Run On', 'Seaside Village Cha Cha Cha', 'Ilta Scandal', the movies 'A Taxi Driver', 'Kim Ji-young, Born in 1982', and 'Samjin Group English'. He is showing a variety of acting activities that are not limited by genre or role, such as 'TOEIC Class'. In addition, he is attracting attention as he is said to be showing off his acting transformation as a professor of obstetrics and gynecology in Jongno Yulje in the new tvN drama 'Someday, the Wise Life of a Resident'.

The play 'Hamlet' starring Lee Bong-ryeon will open at the National Theater Company's Myeongdong Arts Theater on July 5.
