'Squid Game Oil Man' Oh Young-soo, sentenced to first trial today (15th) on charges of forcible molestation

The results of the first trial of actor Oh Young-soo, who was tried on charges of forcible molestation, will be announced today (15th).

Judge Jeong Yeon-joo, Criminal Division 6, Seongnam Branch, Suwon District Court, will hold a sentencing hearing on Oh Young-soo's case on charges of indecent assault at 1:50 p.m. on this day. It has been approximately one year and four months since he was indicted on these charges.

At the final hearing on the 2nd of last month, the prosecution said, "The defendant distortedly expressed his desire for youth and sent an apology text message to the victim's request, but avoided responsibility by saying 'she was like my daughter,' causing the victim to feel frustrated," and sentenced him to one year in prison. A prison sentence was requested.

In response, Oh Young-soo's lawyer appealed, "Other than the victim's statement and the evidence derived from it, there is insufficient evidence to support this case," and "Considering the location, time, and conditions of the molestation, there are doubts as to whether the crime could have been committed."

In addition, Oh Young-soo said in his final argument, "It is difficult and painful to stand in court like this. I am devastated and feel like my entire life is falling apart."

Oh Young-soo was indicted in November 2022 on charges of forcibly assaulting victim A several times, including hugging her on a promenade and kissing her on the cheek in front of A's residence while she was staying in a certain area for a theater performance in the summer of 2017.

Oh Young-soo made his face known by appearing in the Netflix drama 'Squid Game'. He was the first Korean actor to win the Best Supporting Actor Award in the U.S. Golden Globe TV category in January 2022.
