YouTuber Tzuyang deletes video due to ‘racism controversy’ → apologizes

YouTuber Tzuyang eventually deleted the video and apologized after a 'controversy over racism' arose after merging content with comedian Jiyoung Kim, who plays the character 'Nitung', the daughter-in-law from the Philippines.

On the 5th, Tsuyang said through the YouTube community, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern to Filipino viewers and subscribers with a video with a Korean comedian uploaded on January 28."

He continued, "I really respect the Philippines and am truly grateful to the many viewers who watch my videos in the Philippines. However, I did not realize that the content produced this time could hurt someone's feelings even though it was not intended." “I didn’t think about it,” he said.

He added, "We sincerely apologize to Filipino viewers and those who felt uncomfortable while watching the video, and the video has been deleted. We will try to think more and pay more attention when creating content in the future."

Tzuyang hosted a mukbang content with comedian Jiyoung Kim on her YouTube channel. In the video, Kim Ji-young introduced herself in a slurred tone, saying, "I am appearing at Nitung's Human Theater on 'Gag Concert'. I used to be a farmer's wife, but now I am a comedian."

Tzuyang asked, "How can you do that? You're good at imitating the way you speak," and Jiyoung Kim responded, "Because you're Filipino."

Kim Ji-young later mentioned, "I'm Korean. I've never been abroad and I don't have a passport. I'm a native of Seoul." Immediately after the video was released, netizens pointed out that it was ‘racist’.
