Health trainer Yang Chi-seung sues Gangnam District Office over pressure to vacate gym that cost hundreds of millions of dollars
Famous gym trainer Yang Chi-seung filed a lawsuit against Gangnam-gu Office in Seoul after experiencing a conflict over the gym rental contract.

According to the legal community on the 11th, CEO Yang and other merchants recently filed a complaint to the police against Gangnam-gu on charges of obstruction of business. In addition, a real estate development company that signed a lease agreement with the merchants was also accused of fraud.

They raised their voices, saying, “Guarantee the contract period specified in the Commercial Building Lease Protection Act and withdraw all lawsuits filed against merchants.”

Under the Commercial Building Lease Protection Act, if there are no special reasons such as late payment of rent or damage to the building, the lease is protected for up to 10 years when the lessee requests renewal 1 to 6 months before the contract expires.

Previously, CEO Yang signed a lease contract with Company A in 2018 and opened a gym on the first and second basement floors of a commercial building located in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. In this process, CEO Yang invested hundreds of millions of won in building remodeling costs and paid tens of millions of won in monthly rent.

Afterwards, Gangnam-gu took over the management and operation rights of the two buildings. In the past, when company A built the building, it set a condition for payment of donations and followed the rule that 'management and operation rights will be transferred after 20 years of free use.'

Accordingly, Gangnam-gu reportedly notified the merchants to vacate in accordance with the agreement after obtaining the management and operation rights.
