The progress of the 2023 criminal complaint (early 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters) filed against those who spread malicious rumors and slander against our artist IU (IU, real name Lee Ji-eun, hereinafter referred to as the artist) is subject to our laws. On the 2nd, I caught the post of 'Spy Flyer' that surfaced again in the online community, and immediately recognized the attitude of the accused without reflection and the seriousness of the case. Accordingly, we will inform you of the progress of the case and also reveal the status of the criminal complaint that many others may be curious about.
1) Spy flyer case
On May 4, we filed a complaint with the Songpa Police Station in Seoul for defamation of character against a person who spread obvious false information online and offline, such as claiming that the artist is a spy. Subsequently, on May 18, through the investigation of the supplementary statement of the attorney general, a number of decisive clues were provided to identify the accused, and through this, the investigators were able to identify the accused in a short time. However, it is known that the investigator in charge is having difficulties as the respondent is refusing to proceed with the investigation until today, nearly three months after filing the complaint and receiving the case. In response, the legal representative is urging a speedy investigation through the submission of opinions as well as the submission of additional data.
In addition, it was confirmed that the police or others cannot arbitrarily remove the leaflet attached to a specific building in Ulsan that appeared to have been produced by the same distributor on the last 2 days as an online community post, and a legal method to fundamentally prevent such an act are working on it.
2) Artist accusations
On May 10th, through media reports, we heard that a complaint was filed with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul to the effect that the artist violated the copyright of 6 music works and was guilty of violating the Copyright Act. Immediately on the same day, we applied for a request for information disclosure of the complaint, and on May 12, we obtained a copy of the complaint and identified the purpose and content of the complaint. Later, on May 15, a lawyer's opinion was submitted, strongly arguing that the case had no legal basis, and urging the case to be closed as soon as possible. After that, on July 20 and 28, additional lawyers' opinions were submitted, respectively, to further explain that the accusation in this case had no legal basis. It is currently awaiting disposition from the investigative agency.
3) Plagiarism false rumor spreader case
On February 21st, we continued to grasp the circumstances of defaming the artist by posting rumors of plagiarism about the artist. Selected by car. Then, on March 20, we filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, suing the 58 finalized defendants for false facts and timely defamation.
Subsequently, on April 21st and June 26th, the complainant's supplementary statement was investigated twice, and on July 31st, among the defendants in the main case, it was revealed that there was a defendant who was presumed to be the same as the person who has been consistently posting slanderous posts about the recent artist. We obtained materials and submitted additional opinions regarding the accused. In this case as well, since a number of accusations were made against the accused, it was confirmed that the current case was summarized and that a warrant was to be requested to secure the personal information of the accused.
4) Malicious comments
On March 3 of this year, we filed a complaint with the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul on charges of insulting 61 people who posted insulting remarks toward artists online and produced, posted, and distributed pornography, and an investigation was conducted. We have confirmed that we are currently applying for a warrant to secure the personal information of the accused.
Subsequently, on March 6, 60 people who wrote and posted obscene posts targeting artists filed a complaint with the Seoul Bangbae Police Station on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act (obscenity using communication media), and an investigation was conducted to supplement the complainant's statements. I did. In this case, we understand that the process to secure the personal information of the defendants is currently underway.
And on July 7th, 21 people who wrote insulting posts about the artist submitted a complaint to the Songpa Police Station in Seoul on charges of insult, and on the 21st, they submitted a written opinion to file additional complaints against 11 accused, and the complainant made a supplementary statement. conducted an investigation
As the defendants in the above complaints are scattered domestically and internationally, and there are a large number of them, it is expected that it will take some time for the final disposition. In particular, due to the explosive increase in cyber defamation cases, there is a lot of cases in the investigation agencies and courts, making it difficult to carry out prompt investigations in reality. However, even if it takes some time, in order to prevent a recurrence, we will follow up until the end and ask the defendants for legal responsibility.
We do not condone reckless personal attacks to protect the rights of our artists, and as we continue to file criminal complaints, we are preparing additional charges. We will further strengthen our self-monitoring of malicious posts and establish a systematic system.
