Transgender Icon Harisu Opens Up About Health Struggles and Family Bonds

Transgender entertainer and singer Harisu (51) has made a heartfelt revelation.

Recently, the official channel of MBN's 'Field Report Special World' released a video titled 'I Even Considered Uterus Transplant... Dreamed of Marriage and Childbirth but Couldn't Become a Mother, Harisu's Heartbreaking Story | Special World Episode 510.' This video is a re-edited version of the Harisu episode that aired on December 23, 2021.

The video features Harisu meeting with transgender friends she has known for a long time. The gathering was organized to commemorate 19 years since she legally changed her gender.

The conversation naturally shifted to health issues. As they discussed menopausal symptoms, Harisu shared her own health concerns.

She recalled, “I was running on the treadmill and doing lower body exercises at the gym when I felt severe knee pain.” She continued, “After getting tested, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis.”

Harisu added, “I was advised to undergo treatment and was given the option between female hormone therapy and an injectable osteoporosis treatment.” She particularly noted, “At that time, my mother was in her late 70s, but she was at a lower risk for osteoporosis than I was.”

She also shared about her mother's health, saying, “She needs to take blood pressure medication. One of her eyes is affected by macular degeneration, and she is gradually losing her vision.”

Harisu, who revealed her daily life with her 80-year-old mother, expressed her filial devotion, saying, “I rush home after my schedule to eat with my mom, thinking she wouldn't cook for herself.”

Harisu admitted, “Honestly, there were many times I felt so exhausted that I thought about giving up, but I held on thinking of my mom,” bringing tears to her eyes.

Born in 1975, Harisu is South Korea's first transgender celebrity. She gained fame through a 2001 commercial for 'Dodo Cosmetics - Red Container Painkiller' and later pursued a singing career with hits like 'Temptation.' During her peak, she reportedly earned about 100 million won a day. She married singer-turned-businessman Micky Jung in 2007 but divorced in 2017.
