MBC's New Variety Show 'Choi Woo Soo San' Promises Laughter and Adventure
Following his success with 'Radio Star', director Kim Myung-yeop introduces his new variety show 'Choi Woo Soo San'.

On April 28, a press conference for 'Choi Woo Soo San' was held at the Golden Mouse Hall in Sangam, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Yoo Se-yoon, Jang Dong-min, Heo Kyung-hwan, Boom, Yang Se-hyung, and director Kim Myung-yeop.

MBC's 'Choi Woo Soo San' is the first-ever mountain-based variety show in Korea, where participants complete missions in the mountains to collect acorns and compete to reach the summit. The show features Yoo Se-yoon, the winner of the '2025 MBC Entertainment Awards' Best Male Entertainer, alongside veteran comedians Jang Dong-min, Boom, Yang Se-hyung, and Heo Kyung-hwan, known as the 'losers'.

Director Kim Myung-yeop stated, "The most important aspect when creating this program was considering what would be genuinely entertaining for viewers. As a viewer myself, I find it most amusing when celebrities endure hardships on TV." He added, "This time, we are taking on the challenge of climbing to Cheonwangbong Peak at 1,915 meters above sea level, via the Baekmudong course of Jirisan, a mountain rarely featured in variety shows. While it's an entertainment program, it also captures authenticity and the struggles involved, so I hope viewers enjoy it."

Jang Dong-min, who has appeared in numerous variety shows, highlighted the uniqueness of 'Choi Woo Soo San', saying, "I have been involved in many programs that focus on hardships, but 'Choi Woo Soo San' emphasizes the joy that comes after the struggle. Reaching the summit offers an experience unlike any other, and we aim to convey that to the audience. We want viewers to think, 'Is there really such a place in Korea?' The show's distinction lies in the rewards that follow the hardships."

Director Kim expressed satisfaction with the cast, saying, "Having worked on 'Radio Star' for a long time, I've met hundreds of entertainers, and I believe the essence of variety shows is laughter. Comedians and entertainers are the best at delivering that."

He continued, "There are many different variety shows these days, but it seems viewers prefer ones that allow them to laugh comfortably. I wanted to create such a program, which led to this cast."

'Choi Woo Soo San' premieres on May 3 at 6 PM on MBC.
