Comedian Yang Sang-guk, known as the 'Prince of Gimhae,' opened up about his late father on the recent episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' aired on the 29th.
Yang reminisced about the moment he learned of his father's passing four years ago. He received an early morning call from his mother while his father was in a nursing home. "The moment the phone rang, I had a feeling. As soon as I answered, I was told that my father had passed away," he shared.
Reflecting on the difficult times during the COVID-19 pandemic, Yang expressed his sorrow, saying, "My father was taken away wrapped in a plastic bag. I still regret not being able to dress him properly in a burial suit," as he fought back tears.
He continued, "My mother was in quarantine and couldn't see her lifelong partner on his final journey. My brother was on a business trip in the U.S., so I had to stay at the funeral home alone."
Yang also revealed that he recorded phone conversations with his father, cherishing his voice. "I realized there would come a time when I couldn't hear my father's voice anymore," he said. "From then on, I started recording our calls. I still listen to them whenever I miss his voice."
The recordings capture the warmth and care his father had for him. In one of the recordings, his father can be heard saying, "Make sure you eat on time, Guk. Be careful on the slippery roads and sleep well," leaving a poignant impression.
