The ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' (directed by Park Joon-woo, written by Lee Ji-hyun, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by Studio Anzailen) is a crime thriller about a detective investigating a serial murder case who unexpectedly teams up with someone he despises. The show has captivated audiences with its fresh take on the crime genre, and Seo Ji-hye's performance as Kang Soon-young, the sister of detective Kang Tae-joo (played by Park Hae-soo), has been particularly noteworthy.
In the second episode, which aired on the 21st, Soon-young's life, which was filled with happiness as she prepared to marry her boyfriend Lee Ki-beom (played by Song Geon-hee), took a dark turn. While getting a ride home from her colleague Jeon Kyung-ho (played by Kang Jung-woo), Kyung-ho, who had shown interest in her, verbally assaulted her. In response to his rude behavior, Soon-young grabbed the steering wheel to stop the car, leading to a struggle and a car accident. She was found in a shocking state at the hospital after being assaulted by Kyung-ho, who had regained consciousness.
The third episode, which aired yesterday (the 27th), intensified the tragedy surrounding Soon-young, heightening the tension. Upon regaining consciousness, she faced a sharp confrontation with Tae-joo, who was more accusatory than concerned. She was also mistakenly accused of being a homewrecker by Kyung-ho's wife. Even Ki-beom's mother asked her to leave her son. Soon-young's blank expression as she sat silently evoked sympathy from viewers.
Seo Ji-hye has received praise for her successful transformation in 'Scarecrow'. Moving beyond the refreshing image she portrayed in previous dramas like 'Accidental Encounter' and 'Assembled Family', she has delicately depicted the inner turmoil of a character in extreme situations. Her ability to maintain focus amidst the tense atmosphere of the genre and her nuanced emotional portrayal have been lauded. Seo Ji-hye's continued performance is highly anticipated.
'Scarecrow', featuring Seo Ji-hye, airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 PM on ENA and is also available on Genie TV and TVING.
