Singer Bae Ki-sung, 54, has recently shared his struggle with sudden hearing loss, a condition that has put him at risk of losing his hearing. Previously, Bae was diagnosed with sudden hearing loss after experiencing symptoms of deafness in his right ear following eight consecutive days of trying to conceive with his wife.
On the October 27th episode of 'Joseon's Love', Bae Ki-sung revealed that he has been battling sudden hearing loss since January, leaving him on the brink of permanent hearing impairment. If symptoms persist for more than six months, he may be classified as hearing impaired, potentially requiring a hearing aid or cochlear implant surgery. His wife, Lee Eun-bi, has been tirelessly supporting him by providing various health supplements and assisting with exercise. She has explored both traditional and modern medicine to care for her husband, even purchasing dried bullfrogs, centipedes, and live loaches from the market as part of his diet. She humorously remarked, "Maybe eating this will cure your ear and help us conceive. Should we name the baby 'Bullfrog'?"
Lee Eun-bi prepared a meal of 'Bullfrog Boiled Pork' and 'Whole Loach Soup' for Bae. He expressed a positive outlook, saying, "With the onset of hearing loss, I took it as a message to 'take a break'. I've never had a break, so I'm accepting it as a signal for rest." He candidly shared, "I used to think losing my voice would end my career, but it's actually the ears that are more crucial. I miss the beautiful sounds, and I can't even remember what it's like to hear with both ears." Lee Eun-bi revealed her desire to give her own ear to her husband, adding to the emotional weight of their story. In a touching moment, she was seen caring for him with 'ear candle' therapy, prompting studio host Choi Sung-kook to comment, "Even the heavens must be moved."
TV CHOSUN's 'Joseon's Love' airs every Monday at 10 PM.
