TV personality Defconn shared his experience of investment failure.
On the September 27th episode of Channel A's 'Detectives' Trade Secrets', a segment titled 'Detective 24 Hours' featured a man seeking to find his stepmother, whom he parted ways with 27 years ago. The client, who grew up under his father's harsh discipline, initially blamed his stepmother for his misfortunes. However, he later realized her love and began to open up, seemingly mending their relationship.
While serving in the military, he learned of his father's divorce, leading to his separation from his stepmother. A decade later, he managed to contact her but was struggling financially and had to ask for help. His stepmother sent him 100,000 won, but he lost contact again without repaying her kindness. The client admitted, "I became a freeloader," and lived with guilt for 27 years.
The detective team traced the stepmother's whereabouts to a village where her brother once ran a loach farm. With the cooperation of the villagers and a miraculous encounter with her family, the chances of a reunion increased. When contacted, the stepmother expressed her disappointment, saying, "You should have contacted me after receiving the money," but added, "I'm glad to hear you're doing well. Just knowing you wanted to find me is enough." The client attempted to call her but couldn't connect, so he sent a heartfelt message expressing his desire to treat her to meals, give her pocket money, and take her to see cherry blossoms. However, her firm response, "Don't call me," left him speechless, and he resolved to wait until she was ready to accept his apology.
In the 'Case Notebook' segment, a pregnant wife shared her concerns about her 40-something husband, who had become enamored with youthful trends. The husband, a 43-year-old corporate employee, began dressing in a younger style and leaving home on weekends under the pretense of work. His use of trendy slang and photos with a young woman in matching outfits heightened his wife's anxiety. The investigation revealed that he was attending a mixed-gender group on weekends and posing as a newlywed with the woman during the week. Shockingly, he had resigned from his job months earlier.
The husband's insecurity stemmed from a colleague's success story of amassing an 8 billion won fortune through stocks and real estate. Motivated by a friend's remark, "Who makes money from a salary these days?" he quit his job and invested 300 million won in a joint venture, believing it would be the next big thing. However, the group was a scam, with his friend, the mentor, and the woman conspiring against him. Kim Poong expressed outrage, saying, "Scammers should face severe punishment. They ruin families."
The episode also featured musical diva Jeong Seon-ah sharing her own investment woes. She recounted, "I experienced delisting and trading suspension. I followed a friend's advice and now we don't speak." Defconn added humorously, "I held onto S Electronics stock at the 9th floor, sold at the 10th, and watched it soar to the 20th. I re-entered at the 21st floor, only for a war to break out the next day, forcing a quick exit."
