Hong Jin-kyung Opens Up About Her Battle with Cancer and Life Changes on 'Sora and Jin-kyung'
On the premiere episode of MBC's variety show 'Sora and Jin-kyung,' aired on the 26th, broadcaster Hong Jin-kyung candidly shared her life journey, including her battle with cancer and divorce.

The episode marked the reunion of Lee Sora and Hong Jin-kyung after 15 years. As they reconnected after a long hiatus, they naturally began to share their life stories.

When Lee Sora remarked, “We both remain single,” with a smile, Hong Jin-kyung lightened the mood by joking, “Come to think of it, I'm single again too. Am I too strong-willed?”

Hong Jin-kyung briefly summarized the past 15 years, saying, “During the time I didn't see you, I got married, had a child, battled cancer, and got divorced. I had cancer and underwent chemotherapy six times,” which brought a solemn atmosphere to the set.

She spoke candidly about the chemotherapy process, sharing, “The first and last sessions are the easiest. You start the first one without knowing, and you do the last one because you can see the end. The third and fourth sessions are the hardest. I wanted to give up on life. I didn't want to continue because it was too hard.”

Having overcome those challenging times, she revealed that she has now recovered her health, stating, “After going through such times, I am now completely cured and healthy.” Lee Sora offered heartfelt comfort, saying, “You worked so hard.”

In the same broadcast, Hong Jin-kyung also expressed her special affection for the late Choi Jin-sil's children.

Lee Sora commented, “It's amazing how you continue to take care of Hwanhee and Junhee,” to which Hong Jin-kyung responded, “I haven't met them often, but I started with the thought of being consistent from the beginning.”

She added, “I always wanted to be there for them, so they could come to me whenever they needed,” conveying a deep sense of commitment.

Hong Jin-kyung was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013 and battled the disease for about two years before being declared cancer-free. She married in 2003 and has a daughter, but announced her divorce last year.
