Appearing on the 340th episode of 'You Quiz on the Block' aired on the 22nd, Moon Geun-young made her first talk show appearance in 16 years, radiating her signature bright and strong energy. She recently returned to the stage after nine years, taking on the role of Treat in the play 'Orphans'. Moon humorously revealed that she received tips on swearing from fellow actors, as she was not accustomed to using harsh language, which brought laughter to the set.
Debuting as a child actress in the 2000 drama 'Autumn in My Heart', Moon Geun-young became a national darling through films like 'A Tale of Two Sisters' and 'My Little Bride'. Reflecting on her immense popularity at the time, she admitted, "It was actually overwhelming and frightening." During her teenage years, she strived to meet public expectations without making mistakes, supported by her grandmother who acted as her manager for a decade.
Moon shared, "My grandmother always encouraged me to fill my inner self to avoid being an empty vessel, recommending books and emphasizing a life of giving." She revealed that her long-standing charitable activities were influenced by her grandmother. Moon fondly recalled memories of her grandmother cooking meals for her and the staff on set, expressing deep longing for her cherished family member.
Having reached the pinnacle of her career by becoming the youngest recipient of a drama award for 'Painter of the Wind', Moon expressed regret over not fully enjoying those times. She shared, "I wish I could tell my past self to be less serious and make mistakes freely."
In 2017, while actively working, Moon had to halt her career due to an emergency surgery for acute compartment syndrome, a condition unfamiliar to many. She expressed her gratitude to the doctor who accurately diagnosed her condition in a critical moment, calling them her "savior". Despite facing the possibility of giving up acting after multiple surgeries and rehabilitation, Moon stated, "Thanks to the brakes in my life, I finally learned how to take care of myself," showcasing her strengthened inner self.
Now back in good health, Moon Geun-young is actively engaging with audiences through the play 'Orphans', which runs until the 31st of next month at Daehakro TOM Theater.
