Singer and actress IU (34) opens up about her experience playing a teenage role.
On the 14th, the YouTube channel '이지금' released a behind-the-scenes video of the drama '21st Century Grand Duchess.'
In the video, IU prepares for her role as a 9th grader, aged 16, and appears with an embarrassed smile.
IU admitted feeling the pressure herself. She confessed, "I thought it might be a bit of a stretch," and revealed that she had suggested to the director and writer that it might be better to use a child actor.
She further explained why she ended up playing the 16-year-old 9th grader. "Although the scenes are not many, they are important, so there was an opinion that it would be better if I did it myself," she added, noting that the production team accepted the request.
In the released scenes, IU transforms into a 16-year-old character wearing a school uniform. Her natural portrayal in the uniform caught attention, and her youthful appearance made it hard to guess her age.
On set, IU shared, "I felt embarrassed myself, but I couldn't help but laugh when I had to do it again," describing the situation at the time.
Meanwhile, IU is currently starring in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama '21st Century Grand Duchess,' which premiered on the 10th. She plays the role of 'Seong Hee-joo,' a character from a chaebol family but limited by her social status.
