The first two episodes of 'Yumi's Cells 3' (directed by Lee Sang-yeob, written by Song Jae-jung and Kim Kyung-ran, provided by TVING, produced by Studio Dragon, Merrycow, and Studio N) were released on October 13th. The series quickly became the top contributor to TVING's paid subscriptions.
Yumi, played by Kim Go-eun, has been living a peaceful life after achieving success as a writer. Her emotional cells, such as love and annoyance cells, have become dormant due to her focus on work. However, her tranquility is disrupted by Soon-rok, her new producer, who constantly provokes her anger. Despite Yumi's efforts to break the awkwardness on a bus ride, Soon-rok's curt responses and his decision to wear earphones, cutting off conversation, leave her frustrated.
The tension doesn't end there. Soon-rok's calm and rational 'truth bombs' further infuriate Yumi. The scene where Yumi's rare 'anger fish' cell, which only appears when she's furious, repeatedly surfaces, filling the fishing cell's boat, provides comic relief to viewers. Yumi's energetic response, mistaken for excitement, and her decision to buy all the fish-shaped bread as revenge against Soon-rok, hint at exciting developments ahead.
Season 3 showcases Yumi's growth over time. She is supportive of her assistant writer, Na-hee (played by Jo Hye-jung), but her pride prevents her from expressing gratitude to Soon-rok, who understands her writing perfectly. When Soon-rok helps Yumi in a parking garage, his unreadable expression after learning she's been driving for six months leaves her feeling mocked, reigniting her anger.
Yumi contemplates asking Editor-in-Chief Dae-yong (played by Jeon Seok-ho) to replace Soon-rok but realizes her reasons are trivial. When PD Jang (played by Park Se-in) can't join a business trip to Busan, Yumi worries about the awkwardness with Soon-rok. His decision to sit apart from her, claiming there are no seats, surprises her. Learning that Soon-rok requested a writer change, citing scheduling conflicts, leaves Yumi stunned.
Ultimately, Yumi's true feelings break free from their frozen state. Confronting Soon-rok, she demands, "Let's talk, PD Shin. Do you not like working with me? What is it? Can you be specific? I need to hear it." Her anger and Soon-rok's speechless reaction set the stage for a lively romance between the two.
Episodes 3 and 4 of 'Yumi's Cells 3' will be exclusively pre-released on TVING on October 20th at 6 PM. The series airs on tvN every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM.
