Actors IU and Byeon Woo-seok revealed the behind-the-scenes story of their repeated kiss scene in '21st Century Grand Prince' on the web variety show 'Salon Drip'.
On the 14th, the 135th episode of 'Salon Drip' titled 'Prepare to Watch Team Grand Prince!' was released on the YouTube channel TEO. The episode featured the main cast of the drama '21st Century Grand Prince', including IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang-hyun, and Gong Seung-yeon.
The actors shared insights about the much-talked-about 'wall kiss scene'. Contrary to how it appeared, the weather was extremely hot during filming. IU recalled, "It was really hot then. The scene required a fresh look despite the heat. Woo-seok was wearing thick clothes, and I was in velvet."
When Byeon Woo-seok mentioned, "Because it's a kissing scene," MC Jang Do-yeon humorously asked, "Is it a peck or a kiss?" to which Byeon Woo-seok cleverly replied, "You'll know when you see it."
Byeon Woo-seok added, "When you do it, your noses kind of touch. Our noses were both moist." IU laughed, saying, "Because of the heat, our noses kept sweating, leaving marks on our cheeks after each kiss." They had to retouch their makeup frequently during the shoot. Both IU and Byeon Woo-seok agreed that the filming took "a very long time."
Noh Sang-hyun playfully asked, "How many times did you kiss?" IU responded, "Countless times," and Byeon Woo-seok nodded in agreement, saying, "We really did that scene a lot."
'21st Century Grand Prince' is set in a constitutional monarchy in 21st-century Korea. It tells the story of Seong Hee-joo (played by IU), a woman who has everything but is frustrated by her lowly status, and Lee An-dae-gun (played by Byeon Woo-seok), a prince who is sad because he cannot have anything. The drama explores their journey to overcome their destinies and societal status.
