WJSN's Dayoung recently shared her thoughts on what defines 'K-Pop', capturing attention.
On the 2nd, Dayoung held a round interview with Ten Asia at Starship Entertainment's headquarters in Gangnam, Seoul, to commemorate the release of her digital single 'What's a girl to do'.
During the interview, Dayoung stated, "Personally, I don't think K-Pop is defined solely by the amount of Korean language used." She added, "K-Pop is unique in many ways. Elements like stage composition, camera work on music shows, concepts, costumes, and stage attitude all contribute to what makes K-Pop." She further explained, "In contrast, the American pop music market is characterized by its freedom and lack of fixed structures, which can be seen as a strength, whereas structured stages are less common."
Dayoung continued, "People often ask me, 'Why do you have so much English in your lyrics when you're Korean?' This is one of my challenges." She elaborated, "I want to showcase both the free-spirited pop sensibility and the structured K-Pop attitude. I've been told since I was young that songs in English suit me well. This is because the length of sounds in English and Korean are completely different. As a solo artist, I want to highlight my strengths in 'feeling and emotion', so I've been studying English diligently to convey my music convincingly."
Dayoung participated in writing and composing all the tracks on her album, which includes the title track 'What's a girl to do' and the song 'Priceless (kaching kaching)'. The title track captures the emotions between excitement and hesitation that anyone who has fallen in love can relate to.
Meanwhile, Dayoung's digital single 'What's a girl to do' will be released on various music sites at 6 PM on the 7th.
