Actress Kim Hye-yoon shares her thoughts on taking on her first lead role in a horror film with 'Salmoji', directed by Lee Sang-min.
Recently, Kim Hye-yoon, the lead of 'Salmoji', was interviewed at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.
'Salmoji' revolves around a mysterious reservoir plagued by strange rumors. When an unidentified figure is captured on camera, a road view filming team returns to the reservoir for a reshoot, leading to a series of eerie events. Kim Hye-yoon plays Han Soo-in, a producer at the road view service company Onroad Media.
A self-proclaimed horror movie enthusiast, Kim Hye-yoon explained her choice of the project, saying, "The script was intriguing, and the theme of a water ghost was refreshing." She added, "The character Han Soo-in is worn out by life and has a fear of water. The director wanted a fatigued and worn-out vibe, and I agreed that Soo-in should embody that."
To portray her character, Kim Hye-yoon toned down her 'vitality'. She shared, "I aimed to act as if burdened by guilt towards my senior Kyosik (played by Kim Jun-han) and struggling with everything. It was challenging to appear calm on the outside while internally terrified. I put a lot of thought into expressing a state where my eyes and breathing couldn't be calmed."
Regarding her first foray into the horror genre, Kim Hye-yoon remarked, "I learned for the first time that I had to think about the timing of discovering the ghost while acting." She continued, "Calculating when to discover it to heighten the fear was a novel process." She humorously added, "After experiencing it firsthand, I realized how tough it must be for those playing ghost roles. Even though the ghost is the protagonist, it's a role that requires a lot of hard work."
'Salmoji' is set to premiere on the 8th.
