'The Hive' is a film that depicts the struggle of isolated survivors inside a building sealed off due to a mysterious infection outbreak, as they fight against the infected who evolve unpredictably. On the 2nd, the production team of 'The Hive' released character stills of Ji Chang-wook, who plays Choi Hyun-seok, a security team employee at the Dunguri Building.
Choi Hyun-seok is a character who struggles to protect his precious family amidst the sudden infection crisis. Trapped in the building with his sister Choi Hyun-hee (played by Kim Shin-rok), who came to visit him during his long-awaited vacation, Hyun-seok tries to protect his sister, who has a lower-body disability, by carrying her on a camping backpack. Ji Chang-wook is expected to portray Hyun-seok's determination not to crumble in extreme situations and the emotional changes of a character reaching his limits in a nuanced manner.
The released stills capture the tense moments of Choi Hyun-seok after the infection outbreak begins. The images, which show him stepping forward with a pole to protect people, facing the infected alone, and intently watching CCTV monitors, raise curiosity about how Hyun-seok, who knows the building's structure inside out as a security team employee, will resolve the situation. Additionally, there is growing anticipation for the relentless action he will showcase during the struggle.
Ji Chang-wook commented, "The key points to watch are how the infected evolve and how the survivors change and cope. It will be a very thrilling and tense new movie." Director Yeon Sang-ho added, "I thought he was fundamentally a very good action actor, but I was surprised by his emotional acting as well. His research into the character and detailed acting design were truly impressive."
'The Hive' is set to be released in May 2026.
