Son Seung-yeon Shares Her Thoughts on Debuting in the Musical 'Lempicka'

Singer and musical actress Son Seung-yeon expressed her thoughts on participating in the domestic premiere of the musical 'Lempicka'.

On the afternoon of the 26th, a press call for the musical 'Lempicka' (directed by Kim Tae-hoon) was held at the Woori Bank Hall in Coex Artium, Samseong-dong. The event was attended by composer Matt Gould, playwright Carson Kreitzer, and actors Jo Hyung-kyun, Kim Sun-young, Park Hye-na, Lina, Son Seung-yeon, Kim Woo-hyung, Kim Min-cheol, and Kim Hye-mi.

'Lempicka' is based on the true story of Tamara de Lempicka, a real-life figure who maintained her artistic identity amidst the tumultuous history of the Russian Revolution and World Wars. The artist Lempicka began painting as a means of survival and gradually embarked on a bold journey to discover her artistic self and true identity.

In the musical, Son Seung-yeon plays the role of Rafaela, Lempicka's lover and muse who inspires Tamara artistically. As both a vocalist and musical actress, what aspects did Son Seung-yeon consider for her role? She began by saying, "I think what all artists dream of is freedom."

She continued, "As I create songs and albums, I have a strong desire to always be free. I thought a lot about how giving Tamara that sense of freedom could be the spark between the two characters."

Son Seung-yeon perceives Tamara as a symbol of control and restraint. In contrast, Rafaela symbolizes freedom, leading Son Seung-yeon to speculate that the two characters are drawn to each other due to their opposing natures.

Son Seung-yeon explained, "Not only between Tamara and Rafaela, but often when we love someone, we are attracted to aspects that are very different from ourselves. I focused a lot on those aspects."

Meanwhile, the musical 'Lempicka' will be performed at Coex Artium in Seoul until June 21.
