Coupang Play's variety show 'Kang Ho-dong's Bookstore' has released a preview for its fourth episode, featuring the creator of the globally acclaimed 'Pork Soup', Chef Okdong-sik. Recently, members of BTS were reported to have visited Okdong-sik's pork soup restaurant located in Manhattan's Koreatown, New York.
'Kang Ho-dong's Bookstore' is a talk show where the loud-voiced yet soft-hearted INFP bookstore owner 'Hocrates' (Kang Ho-dong) shares genuine conversations with guests who visit his bookstore.
In the released preview, Okdong-sik elevates the bookstore's atmosphere with his 'delicious talk', befitting a chef who has captivated the taste buds of gourmets worldwide. From the start, 'Hocrates' cannot hide his excitement, exclaiming “Pork Soup!” upon Okdong-sik's arrival, setting the stage for their delightful chemistry.
Selected for eight consecutive years by the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand, Okdong-sik's signature dish 'Pork Soup' has taken New York by storm. The episode will reveal the story behind its creation, the secret to its immense popularity with a waiting list of 1,000 teams on opening day, and the success story of his business venture against all odds. Additionally, 'Hocrates' is intrigued by Okdong-sik's special recipe, leading to the memorable quote, “God made water, and Okdong-sik made broth.”
Behind his serious artisan image, Okdong-sik is said to have continued with a witty and flavorful talk. He humorously responded to 'Hocrates' surprise question with “Maybe five years?” causing unexpected laughter. From working as an airline meal intern to a chef at a Korean embassy abroad, he teases a variety of episodes that raise anticipation. His 'life book' promises to share life philosophies as rich and deep as his pork soup broth.
