In the short drama 'My Baby's Daddy is My Friend' by Lezhin Snack, which garnered attention with director Lee Byung-hun of 'Extreme Job' and 'Be Melodramatic' fame, Bae Yoon-kyung played the unpredictable and charming character 'Kyung-ah.' She skillfully portrayed the character's bold expressions and subtle emotional shifts, maximizing the allure of 'Kyung-ah.' Through a video titled 'The Actors' on her agency Prain TPC's YouTube channel, she shared behind-the-scenes stories about the project and her character.
What efforts did you make to perfect the 'Kyung-ah' character?
Bae Yoon-kyung revealed that she was deeply impressed by the intense storyline and unique characters when she first read the script. To perfect the 'Kyung-ah' character, she focused on balancing the emotions in director Lee Byung-hun's distinctive dialogues. The project required various creative ideas, allowing her to experiment as an actress. She also expressed gratitude for the support from her agency senior, actor Oh Jung-se.
Reflecting on her first stage experience with the play 'Meeting' last year, she described it as a significant challenge. She had always wanted to perform on stage and felt it was the right time to start. The play, set in a prison visiting room with a two-person format, required her to drive the narrative solely through dialogue and emotion. She emphasized maintaining the flow of emotions during the 75-minute performance without any exits.
How is your approach to character preparation evolving?
Bae Yoon-kyung admitted that she is still discovering her unique method for preparing characters. Initially, she analyzed scripts logically, but now she strives to connect more closely with her characters through various approaches. She actively embraces advice and support from her senior colleagues, finding joy in the process.
She also shared glimpses of her personal life, adding a relatable charm. Bae Yoon-kyung candidly talked about how she spends her time off and the feedback she receives from those around her, showcasing a different side from her on-screen persona.
