Hwang Bo-ra candidly shared her painful experience with IVF treatment.
On the 24th, the YouTube channel 'Hwang Bo-ra Variety' released a video titled 'Emergency Room Visit After IVF Injection, Giving Up? IVF Side Effects, Infertility Vlog.'
In the video, Hwang Bo-ra updated viewers on her journey of undergoing IVF treatment in hopes of conceiving a second child. She revealed that despite two months into the process, her follicles were not developing as expected, leading to disappointment. "I didn't expect it to happen quickly, but I never imagined that follicles wouldn't form for two months. I feel a bit depressed right now," she admitted.
Each visit to the hospital was filled with hope, but the results consistently fell short. Medical staff advised that they needed to monitor follicle growth further, and Hwang Bo-ra had to repeatedly undergo menstrual induction and hormone regulation. Despite the challenges, she remained determined not to give up.
Hwang Bo-ra began the IVF injections in earnest. After receiving injection training at the hospital, she had to administer the shots to her abdomen at home. She expressed the pain she felt, saying, "It really hurts," and "Today is the worst."
Her son, Woo-in, showed concern for his mother, saying, "Mom is in pain. Dad, come quickly." By the fourth day of injections, Hwang Bo-ra experienced breakouts on her face, and her skin issues and swelling worsened over time.
The side effects were more severe than anticipated. Hwang Bo-ra shared, "It's been a week since I started the injections, and the swelling continues. My lymph nodes are extremely swollen," adding, "I'm a complete wreck right now."
In the video, Hwang Bo-ra's face, hands, and body were visibly swollen, and her abdomen was covered with injection marks and bruises. She eventually contacted her medical team, who advised her to stop the growth hormone injections. With a somber expression, she stated, "I will stop the IVF injections for now."
However, stopping the injections did not immediately improve her condition. The swelling persisted, and Hwang Bo-ra even suffered a corneal tear in her right eye, requiring an eye patch.
Despite her family's advice to stop, Hwang Bo-ra remained resolute, saying, "It's a shame to waste the week of injections, so I want to keep trying." She expressed her genuine desire for a second child, stating, "There's no time to be sad or depressed."
Hwang Bo-ra married Cha Hyun-woo (real name Kim Young-hoon), the son of actor Kim Yong-gun and brother of Ha Jung-woo, in 2022. They have a son named Woo-in.
