Jung Yi-chan recently portrayed the role of 'Shin Joo-shin,' the head of neurosurgery at Nua Hospital, in the TV CHOSUN weekend mini-series 'Dr. Shin,' which aired on October 21-22.
In the series, Shin Joo-shin is a genius doctor with near-supernatural brain surgery skills. He previously performed a shocking surgery to swap the brains of his lover, Momo (played by Baek Se-ra), and his future mother-in-law, Hyun Ran-hee (played by Song Ji-in).
Shin Joo-shin was left in turmoil when Momo, after waking up from the surgery, began speaking in Hyun Ran-hee's mannerisms, leading him to tears. His expressive eyes vividly recalled the cherished moments with Momo, evoking sympathy from viewers.
Shin Joo-shin's dedication to Momo continued. He pressured journalist Geum Bara (played by Joo Se-bin), reminding her of her origins from the Nua Foundation orphanage. However, when an unexpected interview article was published, he expressed chilling anger, asking, "Are you repaying kindness with betrayal?" creating tension.
The death of Hyun Ran-hee, who received Momo's brain, brought Shin Joo-shin to a new turning point. While comforting the grieving Momo (with Hyun Ran-hee's brain), he couldn't hide his complex emotions. In the mortuary, he questioned, "Momo, did I do the right thing? Should I have let you go like this?" expressing restrained sorrow.
Jung Yi-chan captivated viewers with his nuanced performance, conveying sadness, anger, and agony through subtle facial expressions. As he faces the harsh fate of confronting Hyun Ran-hee with Momo's face, curiosity grows about Shin Joo-shin's future actions.
'Dr. Shin' airs every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 PM.
