Unraveling the Mystery: The Shocking Case of Self-Inflicted Stabbing

Broadcaster Ahn Hyun-mo, who married Brand New Music CEO Rhymer in 2017 and faced a breakup in November 2023, expressed her astonishment.

Why Did Both the Victim and Suspect Claim 'Self-Harm'?

On November 3, 2007, a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. Choi (alias), was rushed to the emergency room with severe stab wounds. He was in a life-threatening condition after being deeply stabbed in the abdomen below the sternum. After a difficult surgery, Mr. Choi barely survived and shocked everyone by telling the police, "I stabbed myself." This broadcast delves into whether Mr. Choi's statement was true and what really happened to him that day.

At the time of the incident, the only person with Mr. Choi was his long-time friend, Mr. Kim (alias). The police identified Mr. Kim as a prime suspect based on the circumstances, but Mr. Kim also claimed, "Mr. Choi stabbed himself while doing a belly flop." With both the victim and suspect claiming 'self-harm' as if they had conspired, and with no witnesses or CCTV footage, the case was puzzling. The prosecutor assigned to the case began to dig into these bizarre statements and eventually discovered an unexpected clue.

Lee Ji-hye remarked, "The prosecutor's intuition in finding a clue in a case with no evidence is remarkable." Ahn Hyun-mo added, "The process of uncovering the truth in a case that could have ended unresolved is incredibly fascinating and surprising."

Who Were the Experts That Uncovered the Truth?

In the broadcast, former prosecutor Kwon Hyun-yu, who re-investigated the case, and forensic scientist Lee Jung-bin, who analyzed the characteristics of the wounds to reveal the truth, provide detailed explanations of the situation. Additionally, psychiatrist Lee Kwang-min offers an in-depth analysis of the psychological backgrounds of both the perpetrator and the victim.

The episode will air on March 24 at 9:45 PM on KBS2's 'Smoking Gun.'
