K-pop singer Chun Myung-hoon has expressed his frustration over being labeled as an 'icon of controversy' despite having done nothing wrong.
Recently, a video titled 'The Current Status of Chun Myung-hoon, Who is in Self-Reflection! The Unexpected Secret of 30 Years Without Controversy...' was uploaded on Chao Lu's YouTube channel.
In the video, Chun Myung-hoon shared updates about his life, saying, “These days, I'm just at home. I'm taking a break since the broadcast season ended, playing games, meditating, and doing some self-reflection.” He explained that 'self-reflection' is not meant in a negative way but as a means of self-improvement.
Why is the 'Controversial Icon' Image Unfair?
Online, some view him as a 'controversial icon.' Chun Myung-hoon expressed his frustration, saying, “It's unfair. Thinking about it suddenly makes me angry. I think misunderstandings arose because people I was close to went through such incidents. People tend to lump us together.”
He added, “There are times when I'm afraid to meet people,” sharing the bittersweet reality. Chun Myung-hoon has been associated with past controversies involving friends like Shin Jung-hwan from Roo'ra, Go Young-wook, and Lee Sung-jin from NRG.
The Real Secret to Avoiding Controversy for 30 Years?
Having maintained a controversy-free career for nearly 30 years, Chun Myung-hoon revealed his secret: “You could say I was managed. Simply put, not having money helps.”
Chun Myung-hoon shared, “I worked a lot but was scammed, lent money and never got it back, or lost it. I was gaslighted by companies and faced penalties.”
He explained, “Because I didn't have money, I couldn't gamble. I'm not the gambling type; I dislike taking others' money and can't handle the adrenaline.” He added, “Even if I wanted to be greedy, I couldn't, and that helped me avoid controversy.”
He also shared his thoughts on life, saying, “Happiness comes from satisfaction, not possession. If I have money for soybean paste stew, that's happiness.” He continued, “Even if you earn a lot, you can't take it with you when you die,” revealing his humble values.
Chun Myung-hoon debuted in 1996 with Hamo Hamo and re-debuted in 1997 with the group NRG, gaining significant popularity. He has continued to be active in various entertainment shows and broadcasts.
