On the October 21st episode of KBS 2TV's 'Mr. House Husband 2', singer Hwanhee opened up about his heartbreaking family story for the first time in 45 years, revealing that he was born as a premature baby weighing only 1.5kg, with his life hanging by a thread.
The episode marked the first time Hwanhee's daily life was showcased, after the production team spent three years persuading him to appear on the show.
Hwanhee's Birth as a 1.5kg Premature Baby: What Happened?
Contrary to his current healthy appearance, Hwanhee was born prematurely. His mother recounted the dire situation, explaining that his weight dropped to 1.5kg and his life was in danger. She recalled, "He was very sick as a child. I almost lost him." She also mentioned, "He was born a month early and couldn't even open his eyes."
At the hospital, she was even told to "give up on him." Hwanhee was visibly shocked by his mother's revelation.
Mother's Emotional Struggle: "I Felt Ashamed, Like It Was My Fault"
When Hwanhee suffered from indigestion after drinking milk, his parents gave him water made from boiled straw, which finally relieved him. His mother felt as if her son's illness was her fault, expressing, "I felt ashamed, like I was incompetent. Isn't it embarrassing to be incompetent in front of your child?" Her words evoked sympathy.
