Singer and actress Son Dam-bi opened up about her differing parenting views with husband Lee Kyu-hyuk.
On the 20th, a video titled 'Son Dam-bi, in a Parenting Value Conflict? Just Agree on This One Thing' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Dam-bi Son'.
In the video, Son Dam-bi shared, "Our baby is only 10 months old, but I have a lot of questions," explaining why she sought advice. She added, "My husband and I have different opinions on some things, and I'm curious about how to reconcile them."
Lee Kyu-hyuk commented, "When raising a child and living together, there are bound to be conflicts if there are two opinions. I think it's better for one person to lead. I try to align with Dam-bi's thoughts, but sometimes I think another approach might be better."
Differences in Parenting Styles
Son Dam-bi explained, "I'm the type to constantly play and engage with the baby, doing something all the time," while adding, "My husband thinks it's unnecessary. I understand, but I feel like just letting the baby sleep isn't right." Lee Kyu-hyuk responded, "I believe it's more important for the child to play physically and independently. Dam-bi seems to want to do everything together all day."
The counselor advised, "It's good to raise a child with balance. Alone time is also necessary."
"Can't Trust Husband" vs "Feeling Left Out" - Deepening Conflicts?
Son Dam-bi expressed her frustrations towards her husband, saying, "When he showers the baby, he doesn't apply lotion thoroughly, which causes issues." Lee Kyu-hyuk replied, "Even if I say the same thing, she doesn't trust me," and Son Dam-bi added, "I end up doing everything, so he doesn't get a chance to practice."
Lee Kyu-hyuk also shared feeling left out, saying, "On weekends, I take care of the baby, but the baby always goes to Dam-bi instead of me." The counselor explained that this is a natural process.
Son Dam-bi also talked about how her life has completely changed after giving birth. Lee Kyu-hyuk noted, "Since the baby arrived, Dam-bi has changed 180 degrees. She wasn't the type to manage household chores before, but now she does everything. Even when I tell her to rest, she doesn't." Son Dam-bi explained, "It's because of the baby. We can live with dust, but the baby is too young, so I worry."
Son Dam-bi added, "There is so much information these days, and trying to keep up with everything makes it harder." Lee Kyu-hyuk mentioned, "Even when I talk, she doesn't listen well. Sometimes she ignores me or doesn't respond." However, he noted, "When an expert speaks, Dam-bi listens well."
After the counseling session, Son Dam-bi reflected, "It was a time to reconsider how to better care for the baby with my husband and think about my personality. An expert is necessary when we can't persuade each other." Lee Kyu-hyuk added, "I think many husbands should definitely come."
