In 2024, former baseball player Hwang Jae-gyun, who recently divorced T-ara's Jiyeon, shared his struggles and future plans. Hwang has signed an exclusive contract with SM C&C, home to personalities like Kang Ho-dong and Jeon Hyun-moo, signaling a new chapter in his career.
Hwang Jae-gyun will appear on the 356th episode of KBS Joy's 'Ask Anything', where he discusses his transition from a 20-year baseball career to aspiring broadcaster. Despite retiring, he admits to being unable to shake off his exercise obsession, saying, "After retiring, I spent a month enjoying life, but my body rejected it," revealing that he now exercises more than during his active sports days.
Lee Soo-geun questions, "These days, retired baseball players often engage in baseball-related entertainment or become commentators or coaches. Do you want to pursue something related to baseball, or are you interested in variety shows?" Hwang gestures towards Seo Jang-hoon, indicating his desire to become a variety show personality like him.
Seo Jang-hoon advises, "To succeed in broadcasting, you need to change your routine. Instead of just exercising, read books, understand people's interests, and watch variety shows." He adds, "Why do you exercise all day? Are you planning to return as a player?" Hwang admits, "I can't let go of my exercise compulsion," prompting Seo's stern advice.
Lee Soo-geun humorously suggests, "You can train for variety shows. Just pay me about 6,000 a month, and we can have skit lessons every two weeks." He jokes further, "How about a group blind date? It's enough time to showcase your character," and even suggests a bold character idea, "Wear yellow lenses and go by 'Hwangdal'," causing laughter on set.
The hosts also offer sincere advice. Lee Soo-geun says, "Don't feel anxious. Someone who has only played baseball might come off as unlikable if they suddenly try to be funny. Approach it naturally, and you'll become a beloved entertainer." Seo Jang-hoon adds, "Instead of forcing what doesn't work, focus on what you do well, and the path you want will open."
Additionally, the episode will cover stories like a veteran shaman's struggles and a daughter's habitual escapades on social media and open chat rooms. Catch these stories on the 356th episode of 'Ask Anything' airing on the 16th at 8 PM.
