On the 5th, a roundtable interview with Choi Hyo-jin, the chief producer of Mnet's 'Show Me The Money 12' (SMTM12), was held at the CJ ENM Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. 'Show Me The Money' is a survival program where top and rookie rappers in South Korea team up to compete, first airing in June 2012. The latest season, SMTM12, marks the show's return after four years since the conclusion of season 11 in December 2022. Over its 14-year run, the show has faced its share of controversies. Recently, it was revealed that a participating rapper was indicted for evading military service, leading to the complete editing out of their segments.
Choi emphasized, "Regardless of any issues that arise, our top priority is minimizing the impact on others. It's crucial to ensure that the efforts of participants and producers are not undermined or diminished. We always hope that such issues don't escalate."
He continued, "The timing of filming and when it gets edited or aired can lead to unexpected challenges. Despite this, we strive to edit and organize the content so that the efforts of other participants are not overshadowed."
He explained, "For teasers, the production team considers various elements, but we should have been more meticulous. Given 'Show Me The Money's' long history, certain playful or stylistic elements in teasers were once naturally accepted. However, trends and dynamics have changed, and we recognize the need for new approaches and considerations in creating teasers. Observing feedback post-broadcast, we realized areas we missed. Moving forward, we feel a responsibility to ensure that the authenticity of the music and the stories and efforts of participants are better conveyed in future broadcasts and content."
