According to a report on the 5th, the Fruit of Love inadvertently uploaded a file containing sensitive personal information, such as names and social security numbers of major donors, on their official website during the announcement of the '2024 Financial Statement' last April. The file was uploaded without any protective measures.
The organization failed to notice the breach for nearly a year, only removing the file on the 4th of this month. The prolonged exposure of sensitive information online has raised concerns about potential identity theft and phishing scams.
The leaked list reportedly includes 647 individuals, comprising major figures from the political and business sectors, as well as famous celebrities who donated over 20 million won.
In response, the Fruit of Love has issued an apology on their website, stating, "We are sending apology notices to the affected individuals and providing telephone guidance regarding the breach." They also mentioned that they are strengthening security measures and have formed a response team to handle the situation.
In a related incident, the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association, another charity organization, has also been found to have leaked donor information. On the 5th of last month, they uploaded '2022-2024 Financial Statements' on their website without concealing donors' names, social security numbers, and donation amounts. The breach reportedly affects over 1,000 individuals.
