On their YouTube channel 'Enjoy Couple,' the duo posted a video titled 'How Much Should We Pay the Grandmothers for Taking Care of the Twins?'
In the video, Im Ra-ra explained, "Finding a sitter for twins is nearly impossible, so we asked our mothers for help." She detailed how her mother-in-law moved in to assist with childcare, while her own mother took charge of household chores and hygiene. Im Ra-ra then suggested that each person anonymously write down what they think is a fair monthly salary, kicking off a negotiation on compensation.
The envelopes revealed a wide range of suggested amounts, from as low as 500,000 won to as high as 4 million won. Im Ra-ra's mother explained her reasoning for the 4 million won figure, stating, "No matter how much you love your grandchildren, taking care of twins 24/7 is a very demanding job."
Meanwhile, Son Min-soo's mother expressed her hesitation, saying, "It's awkward to discuss money when taking care of your child's children," and suggested 500,000 won. Son Min-soo jokingly responded, "Then we'll just take care of my mother-in-law," bringing laughter to the room.
Statistics revealing that 54% of grandparents involved in childcare do so without pay shocked both mothers. Son Min-soo's mother was outraged, asking, "Isn't this like cheating your mom?" while Im Ra-ra's mother also protested. Im Ra-ra calmed them by explaining that many parents can't afford to pay due to the high costs of raising children.
Ultimately, Im Ra-ra concluded the discussion by saying, "Considering not only the childcare help but also their frequent appearances on our channel, we'll add an appearance fee to their allowance." She emphasized the importance of their support, asking her mother-in-law to return soon. Previously, Im Ra-ra had shared that she was unable to walk for two months after giving birth to the twins.
