The future of the K-pop group WINNER as a complete unit has become uncertain. Despite Kang Seung-yoon's strong desire to reunite the group after his military discharge, ongoing controversies have cast doubt on this possibility. Song Min-ho's upcoming court appearance suggests that fans may not see WINNER as a full group for several more years.
According to a report on the 12th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Song Min-ho on charges of violating the Military Service Act. The indictment alleges that Song Min-ho was absent without leave for 102 days out of his 430-day service as a social service worker. Prosecutors are focusing on his poor attendance record, including 19 days of absence in July 2024. Additionally, there are allegations that a manager, identified as A, covered up Song Min-ho's absences with false documents. Song Min-ho's first court hearing is scheduled for April 21.
Song Min-ho's alleged violations stand in contrast to Kang Seung-yoon's exemplary military service. Kang was recognized as an outstanding trainee and selected as a special warrior during his service.
Upon his discharge in December last year, Kang Seung-yoon expressed his gratitude to fans through a handwritten letter on the fan community platform Weverse, stating, "The support from fans was a beacon during challenging times in the military." He also raised expectations for a group comeback, saying, "I will greet you soon with Jinwoo, Seunghoon, and Minho," and shared plans to complete work on 10 songs before their return. However, with Song Min-ho facing legal issues, the promised 'four-member comeback' seems unlikely.
Kang Seung-yoon recently appeared on MBN and Channel S's 'Jeon Hyun-moo Plan 3' on the 6th, where he mentioned, "We haven't made a comeback recently," discussing the group's current status. While he shared personal aspirations of marrying in his 40s and enjoying a stable life in his 50s, the group's activities as a complete unit remain indefinitely postponed.
