Seo Ah-reum, known as the shortest comedian in the entertainment industry, has announced her decision to embark on a weight loss journey.
On October 3rd, the Juvis Diet YouTube channel released a video titled '146cm Tall, 73kg Seo Ah-reum, Why I Feel Unfair'. In the video, Seo candidly shared her past experiences and the character she has been associated with, revealing the reasons behind her decision to lose weight.
Seo expressed, “Colleagues often asked me, 'Seo Ah-reum is like an unscratched lottery ticket. Don't you want to scratch it?' Hearing that made me feel like my heart was being scratched.”
Standing at 146cm, Seo is officially recognized as the shortest entertainer in the comedy scene. She initially gained attention during the KBS open recruitment for comedians by highlighting her petite stature and fuller figure. However, as her weight reached 73kg, concerns about her health began to grow.
Although she has never seriously attempted dieting before, Seo shared a unique experience of losing 13kg during a breakup, which she referred to as her 'breakup diet'.
Despite being able to eat only one hamburger, she stated, “There's a stereotype that because I'm overweight, I must be lazy. In reality, I start my day at 6 AM and work until 1 AM, managing a busy schedule. I want to dispel these misconceptions.”
She continued, “Even though I've lived with a chubby character, I want to hear that I'm 'sexy' after losing weight. By shedding pounds, I aim to break away from my ambiguous character and take on more diverse roles, which is why I chose Juvis Diet.” This declaration is noteworthy as it represents not just a quest for weight loss, but also a challenge for health recovery, image expansion, and career transformation.
Seo Ah-reum first gained recognition in 2019 through YouTube's 'Duriban TV' and TikTok. In 2023, she passed the KBS 33rd open recruitment for comedians and officially debuted on KBS2's 'Gag Concert'. Since then, she has appeared in various roles in segments like 'Factrama' and 'Short Form Play', and has expanded her activities with appearances in 'This Kind of Kind Romance' and 'Defconn's What's Up with Some'.
