K-pop singer Lee Hi has been found to have been operating her own entertainment agency illegally.
According to a report on the 27th, Lee Hi's entertainment agency, '808 High Recordings,' completed its registration with the Mapo District Office on the 21st. This registration comes 5 years and 9 months after the company's establishment in April 2020.
The report states that '808 High Recordings' is a family-run business with Lee Hi as the CEO and her older sister serving as an internal director.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had set a 'comprehensive registration guidance period' until the end of last year to encourage unregistered agencies to register voluntarily. However, Lee Hi's agency completed the registration process three weeks after this period ended.
In response, Lee Hi's current agency, Dooover, told TenAsia, "Lee Hi has been working under an exclusive contract with us and was unaware that a separate registration for her personal business was necessary. She has since completed the relevant educational courses and recently finalized the registration process."
They added, "This incident occurred due to the ignorance and oversight of both the company and the artist. We apologize for any concern this may have caused and will ensure that we thoroughly check related laws and procedures in the future to prevent a recurrence."
