Hyun Bin's Highly Anticipated OTT Debut 'Made In Korea' Set for Global Premiere on Disney+

Hyun Bin's much-anticipated return to series and his first OTT original series, 'Made In Korea' (referred to as 'MaInko'), is set to premiere globally on Disney+ this Christmas Eve. As the release approaches, here are three key points to look forward to in the series.

Set in the 1970s, a time of chaos and growth in South Korea, 'MaInko' tells the story of Baek Ki-tae (played by Hyun Bin), a man who aims to reach the pinnacle of wealth and power by using the nation as his business model. He faces off against prosecutor Jang Geon-young (played by Jung Woo-sung), who relentlessly pursues him to the edge. Hyun Bin takes on the role of Baek Ki-tae, a Central Intelligence Agency officer driven by ambition, marking a new challenge and a significant character transformation for the veteran actor in his 21st year of acting.

◆ Hyun Bin's Ambitious Noir Transformation

In a previously released interview, Hyun Bin described Baek Ki-tae as "the most directly ambitious character" he has ever portrayed. By day, Baek Ki-tae is a CIA agent maintaining the center of power, and by night, he expands his influence through smuggling. Known for his iconic roles in romance genres, Hyun Bin now dons a heavy narrative in a period noir, showcasing a completely new persona.

◆ The Winning Combination of Pomade and Suit

To embody the symbolic character of a CIA agent, Hyun Bin underwent meticulous adjustments in physique and styling. His sleek pomade hairstyle, solid build, and sharply tailored suits amplify Baek Ki-tae's cold charisma, completing his imposing presence. Ironically, this cold styling accentuates his classic handsome features, enhancing the character's duality and allure. His styling throughout the six-part series is another point of anticipation.

◆ A Spectrum of Relationships

Hyun Bin has previously demonstrated a wide range of chemistry in both romance and bromance roles. In this series, he will form complex relationships, including a fierce rivalry with Jang Geon-young (Jung Woo-sung), a brotherly bond with Baek Ki-hyun (Woo Do-hwan), and a strategic alliance with Ikeda Yuji (Won Ji-an). How each character's narrative influences Baek Ki-tae's choices and the emotional nuances Hyun Bin brings to the role will be key to the series' engagement.

'Made In Korea,' starring Hyun Bin, will be available for streaming on Disney+ worldwide this Christmas Eve.
