Intrigue and Betrayal Unfold in 'Moon River': Episode 12 Recap

Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong Uncover Jin Goo's Weakness.

The latest episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Moon River' (directed by Lee Dong-hyun, written by Jo Seung-hee) aired on the 13th, revealing the truth behind the Gyesanyeon incident and the revenge plot of Left State Councilor Kim Han-cheol (played by Jin Goo) to overthrow the royal family, shocking viewers. Episode 12 achieved nationwide ratings of 5.7% and 5.1% in the metropolitan area, with a peak of 6% during the scene where Lee Kang (played by Kang Tae-oh) and Lee Woon (played by Lee Sin-young) head to the secret base of the Myeongdan group (Nielsen Korea).

Kim Han-cheol, realizing that Park Dal-i (played by Kim Se-jeong) is actually Crown Princess Kang Yeon-wol, took her family hostage to force her to reveal her identity. Unable to abandon those who had cared for her like family, Park Dal-i confessed to being the deposed Crown Princess Kang, leading King Lee Hee (played by Kim Nam-hee) to order her execution under pressure from the ministers.

The news of Park Dal-i's imprisonment and her true identity as the deposed Crown Princess quickly spread throughout the palace. Despite claiming Park Dal-i's innocence, Lee Kang was also confined to the East Palace. However, secret plans to rescue Park Dal-i, led by Lee Kang, began to unfold within the palace, heightening the tension.

Before Park Dal-i's arrest, Lee Kang had informed King Lee Hee about Kim Han-cheol's private army at the secret base, seeking his help to capture them. Unable to lose his son and daughter-in-law or be further manipulated by Kim Han-cheol, King Lee Hee supported Lee Kang and Park Dal-i's escape, adding to the suspense.

Joining Lee Kang's cause were Grand Prince Lee Woon and his lover Kim Woo-hee (played by Hong Su-zu). While Lee Woon bought time, Kim Woo-hee swapped clothes with the imprisoned Park Dal-i, facilitating her escape. Kim Han-cheol, deceived by the 'human shell game' orchestrated by the four youths, urgently searched for Park Dal-i.

Kim Han-cheol had a crucial reason to capture Park Dal-i. He believed she had discovered the secret of the Myeongdan group's base on Mt. Gamak, where his confidants resided. During her time as Crown Princess, Park Dal-i had encountered a woman in white at Mt. Gamak, suspecting a connection to Kim Han-cheol, and headed there with Lee Kang.

However, Kim Han-cheol's subordinates had already fortified the area. If captured, both Park Dal-i's life and Lee Kang's revenge would be in jeopardy. To accomplish their tasks, Lee Kang and Park Dal-i switched bodies. Park Dal-i's spirit, in Lee Kang's body, secretly relayed the location of the Myeongdan base, while Lee Kang, in Park Dal-i's body, arrived at Mt. Gamak with Lee Woon to uncover Kim Han-cheol's secret.

During this process, the reason behind Kim Han-cheol's obsession with power and his desire to overthrow the royal family was revealed, shocking everyone. Kim Han-cheol, who loved the unjustly deposed Queen Jang Jeong (played by Jang Hee-jin), sought revenge for her. It was even revealed that Kim Han-cheol had hidden Queen Jang Jeong, believed to be dead, at the Myeongdan base, doubling the shock.

Unaware of these facts, Queen Jang Jeong's son, Lee Woon, was frozen in place upon unexpectedly encountering his long-lost mother. As the revenge plot reaches its climax, viewers are left wondering if Lee Kang, Park Dal-i, Lee Woon, and Kim Woo-hee can protect their loved ones and reveal the truth to the world.
