Renowned director Park Chan-wook, known for films like 'Decision to Leave,' has revealed his interest in repeatedly watching YouTube videos about former President Yoon Seok-yeol's alleged corruption, sparking public interest.
In an interview with the American pop culture magazine 'Vulture,' released on December 1st, Park was asked about the content he turns to for stress relief. He responded, 'YouTube videos related to former President Yoon's various corruption allegations.'
Park has been vocal in criticizing the December 3 Martial Law incident and participated in a statement demanding the impeachment of former President Yoon. On December 14 last year, during the second vote on the impeachment bill, Park showed support for citizens attending a rally in Yeouido by purchasing the entire day's stock from a nearby bakery.
In the same interview, Park named Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' as the most impressive film of the year. The film is set in a fictional America under an extremely right-wing government and follows a former radical leftist. Park commented, 'As someone who attended university in Korea during the 1980s, seeing the life of a failed revolutionary on screen was profoundly moving.' He also praised Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in the film as the best of the year.
Park highlighted Netflix's British drama 'Adolescence' as the standout TV series of the year. He mentioned the play 'Hedda Gabler' as a memorable performance and Vladimir Nabokov's 'Pale Fire' as a book he couldn't put down. For the most impressive performance, he chose pianist Cho Seong-jin's recital commemorating the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel's birth.
Meanwhile, 'Vulture' is conducting a feature that selects 50 influential figures in the cultural and artistic fields this year, showcasing what they watched, read, and listened to in 2025.
