Debuting in 2013, actor Bae Na-ra showcases a new side in the SBS drama 'Marry Me, Universe'.
In 'Marry Me, Universe', Bae Na-ra takes on the role of Baek Sang-hyun, a character filled with ambition yet possessing a human charm, as he ventures into the romance genre. The drama, which concluded on the 15th, depicts a sweet yet fierce 90-day fake marriage between two individuals vying for a luxurious newlywed home.
Baek Sang-hyun is portrayed as someone who desires to escape his impoverished past and remain in the upper echelons of society. He is willing to do whatever it takes to support his superior, Lee Sung-woo (played by Park Yeon-woo). With his cold judgment and impeccable work ethic, he handles tasks efficiently and maintains a professional demeanor even in unreasonable situations.
Simultaneously, he reveals an inner conflict, yearning to break free from his current lifestyle, creating a character rich with emotional depth. From expressions that seem to suppress emotions to scenes where he releases his frustrations through running, Bae Na-ra intricately portrays complex emotions. When encountering a student in a similar situation, his self-deprecating remarks add credibility to his emotional journey, delivering a profound impact.
The subtle romance with Yoon Jin-kyung (played by Shin Seul-gi) also tickles the viewers' hearts. Initially unable to understand each other, the two characters gradually grow closer through chance encounters and continuous conversations, leaving a lingering impression as they empathize with each other's circumstances.
Bae Na-ra has been carving out his unique niche by appearing in various genres, including Netflix's original series 'D.P. Season 2', 'Weak Hero Class 2', and 'Your Taste'. In Disney+'s 'Fragmented City', released on the 5th, he plays the mysterious character Woo Bi-nam, exuding a strong presence. He is also set to portray Clyde, a charming young man dreaming of becoming a legendary criminal, in the musical 'Bonnie and Clyde', opening on the 11th of next month.
