In episodes 7 and 8 of JTBC's weekend drama 'Kim Manager's Story,' aired on the 15th and 16th, Cha Kang-yoon plays Kim Soo-gyeom, the son of retired corporate manager Kim Nak-soo (played by Ryu Seung-ryong). The episodes depict a deepening father-son narrative as they overcome conflicts and gradually understand each other.
In the broadcast, Kim Soo-gyeom candidly reveals his 30 million won debt to his father, who promises to help resolve it and even gives him pocket money. This gesture of love and sincerity from his father deeply moves Kim Soo-gyeom, who begins to appreciate and cherish his father, contrasting with his previously rebellious nature. This portrayal of a strong bond and trust between father and son leaves a warm impression.
Kim Soo-gyeom then tells a white lie about resolving his debt upon hearing of his father's sudden retirement and starts working part-time at a student cafeteria, showing responsibility in his own way. His father's thoughtful gesture of secretly depositing money, despite knowing the truth, further touches Kim Soo-gyeom. However, contrary to his father's wish for a simple life, Kim Soo-gyeom hints at a new beginning by holding onto Lee Han-na (played by Lee Jin-yi), drawing attention to his upcoming tumultuous journey.
Cha Kang-yoon skillfully portrays the complex relationship of a father and son who, despite their outward conflicts, deeply care for each other. He vividly captures the struggles and growth of a realistic 20-something, enriching the drama's narrative with the character's dilemmas and conflicts.
'Kim Manager's Story' airs every Saturday at 10:40 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM.
