The latest episode of JTBC's sports variety show 'Kick a Goal 4' saw a tense match between coaches Lee Dong-gook and Koo Ja-cheol, ending in a draw. Koo Ja-cheol, still seeking his first victory in the 'Fantasy League,' faced a challenging game.
Aired on the 9th, the 31st episode featured a crucial match for both coaches. Newcomer Koo Ja-cheol, who has yet to secure a win since his debut, faced off against Lee Dong-gook, who was leading in the first half of the season but recently hit a slump. The episode achieved the highest viewership rating in its time slot among cable channels, according to Nielsen Korea.
Before the match, Koo Ja-cheol sought advice from hosts Kim Sung-joo and Kim Yong-man on how to defeat 'Lion Hearts FC.' Despite suggestions to unsettle Lee Dong-gook, Koo insisted on maintaining sportsmanship. Former players Ahn Jung-hwan and Kim Nam-il, who have defeated 'Lion Hearts FC' before, advised Koo to focus on marking Choi Jong-woo.
Both teams faced lineup challenges before the match. 'Lion Hearts FC' had to replace their main center-back Han Eun-sung with high schooler Choi Han-bin due to a suspension. 'FC Captain' also missed Lee Chan-hyung, who was suspended, affecting their full lineup.
As the match began, both teams engaged in a fierce battle for dominance. 'Lion Hearts FC' launched quick attacks led by Lee Yong-woo and Lee Shin-ki, while 'FC Captain' defended with Yang Jun-beom, Lee Seung-chan, and Malwang. Despite numerous attempts, neither team could finish decisively, with goalkeepers Song Ha-bin and Cha Joo-wan making impressive saves.
The first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Both coaches urged their teams to be more aggressive in the second half. 'FC Captain' finally broke through with Lee Seok-chan scoring his first goal in 11 matches, lifting the team's spirits under Koo Ja-cheol's leadership.
However, 'Lion Hearts FC' did not relent. In the final minutes, Choi Jong-woo's determined cross was finished by Lee Shin-ki, securing a dramatic equalizer just two minutes before the end. Koo Ja-cheol's hopes for a first win were dashed in the closing moments.
The match concluded with a 1-1 draw. 'FC Captain' players were left disappointed, while 'Lion Hearts FC' felt relieved. Despite the result, Koo Ja-cheol praised his players, stating, "Regardless of the outcome, the players deserve applause and recognition for their efforts. We are a team capable of winning if we play our game."
The episode's teaser hinted at an upcoming match between 'Saksri UTD,' who recently secured their first win in 10 games, and 'FC Fantasy Star,' who previously defeated them 4-0.
'Kick a Goal 4' airs every Sunday at 7:10 PM.
